About Me And Where To Find Me

Picture
I am Wisterian Watertree, and I just moved from the amazing city of Sendai in the Tohoku area of northern Japan to the northern Kanto region. The three prefectures of Tochigi, Ibaraki, and Gunma regularly compete for the position as the most boring place in Japan, and our new home town of Koga is at the corner of all three, which possibly makes it the most boring city in Japan.

Sixteen Years Of Japanese Wines

This is my sixteenth year in Japan, and in the process I have managed to father three wonderful kids, visit most of Japan, try about 60% of all the wines produced in Japan (and there are several thousand). My favorite white is Grace Gris de Koshu, and my favorite reds are produced by Chateau Mars.

Why Should I Care?

When you leave customs and immigration and finally get to step into Japan, it is easy to be overwhelmed. A flood of completely new information washes over you, presented in blinking neon characters you can not read. Everything is familiar with a 90 degree twist. What you thought were self-evident turns out to be the other way around. Japan has a way to twist your sensations in ways you did not expect.
Once you have twisted your head into it, however, the Japanese way of doing things start to make sense.

Where To Meet Me Next

If you are a member of the Japan Travel Planning Facebook group, you are in luck. I will be doing a live on Sunday October 30 for the group - twice, at 0730 and 2200 JST (Japan Standard Time). The reason is that I am finally launching my eBook of “Take Your Toddlers To Tokyo”, my handbook for traveling parents with small children who want to get the best out of their visit to Tokyo.
If you join the group, you can be there too.
